Business leaders will among those voicing their opposition to fracking during the Global Frackdown, an international day of action on Saturday, October 19.
The Global Frackdown will feature events in countries across the world, from Bolivia to Bulgaria, including over a dozen in New York State.
From coffee roasters to bed & breakfasts, from Patagonia to Brooklyn Brewery, businesses are increasingly speaking out about fracking’s threats to New York’s water, food, air, and climate – and its risks to agriculture, tourism, real estate, and other economic engines of our state.
As such, business leaders will be featured at several New York Frackdown events:
Vintner Art Hunt of Hunt Country Vineyards is speaking at a rally in Manhattan, along with representatives from the Park Slope Food Coop and Long Island’s Blue Point Brewery.
In Brooklyn, 61 Local, a restaurant, is hosting a Frackdown event on October 15.
And in the Finger Lakes, the Frackdown will celebrate the region’s food producers, farms, wineries, and other businesses. Calling for “Food, Not Fracking,” New Yorkers Against Fracking will be bringing together businesses against fracking at Northstar in Ithaca.
There are at least three ways in which businesses can get involved in the Global Frackdown:
- Promote the Frackdown: Encourage your customers, clients, and colleagues to participate in Frackdown events by circulating emails and fliers.
- Participate in the Frackdown: Join a local Frackdown event in your community – or, if there isn’t one, help organize your own!
- Share information: On October 19, distribute information about fracking to your clients and customers.
